Topic 5 Where do we go from here?

The power of collaborating

An  excellent example of the power of collaborative learning is given by the way the Linux operating systems was developed. What is evident in these kinds of projekt is the joy and determination of the membes in the group and thats not easy to achieve in all learning projects.

The film below is mainly in English

Some questions to think of:

  1. Why were you interested in ONL171 course?

I handle LMS systems at the Department of Physical Geography, and I see that education will change very much in the future since our spieces have enter the new level of intersecting.
  2. Which expections did you have when you clicked the buttom "Enroll me into this course"?

I expected to learn new stuff (and share some of my own findings) as well as I was looking forward to meet others with similar expectations.
  3. How did you feel at the beginning of the course? Is it always easy to learn collaborative?

I didn't know what was expected of me but I realised that working together was one of the tasks, together with learning new methods and gadgets.
  4. What did you bring with you out of this course?

I see that it is easy to discover interesting methods etc and its hard to value the outcome. I miss a concept of "whats there to learn", from the beginning. On the other hand, this might also make the course more interesting.

  5. Is something what you will change in the design of your course after we finish with our journey?

I would have liked to see all the 5 topics in advance, and som sort of progress bar attatched to the schedule. Well, We can see the activity-form as a progress bar.

Topic 4 Design for online and blended learning

Very intresting subject and a lot to read. An easy way to grasp hugh text blocks from the net is to use a synthetic reader as I found ttsreader to be very conveniant. http://ttsreader.com/

I attended the webinar and realized that it was a bit hard to follow as many concepts were new to me. Intresting to participate in an instant poll for personal thoughts in a scale from 1 to 5 with the web survey tool Surwey & Report giving us fast results including answers measured with precise standard deviation.

To be able to produce my answer fast I had to open a second screen with the Google Translate, http://translate.google.com (and http://tyda.se ) as Im not a native english speaker, to faster comperhend a swedish text (despite it comes weth some misspellings :) )

I was not really clear with the meaning of the reasult of the poll as I think it was easy to give many 3's as answer due to short time and it was hard to really get clear concepts of the questions...

Anyway, blended learning for courses is here to stay and I'll link to my fellow pbl5 group member Anna Trubetskaya who expressed theis clear:

Notes on webinar on topic 3

Nice to get to know about the Zoom video conferece /webinar environment.
PLN network, Professional /Private Learning networks seems to be the way of collaboration in times to come. The knowledge kept more like a Bazaar rather than like a Cathedral as before. You may act and learn " Alone together".
The Idea of PLN's came out of the concept of source crowding as seen on how ideas and skills from different directions got together and created new stuff and software companies. (as Linux, MySql etc)

From this environment the joy and fun was recognized to be in the process of colloborative learning.
As individuals it is suggested to register a private domain name that always may be referred to, for example:  rolfjacobson.se

The LMS-way of keeping learning entities maybe has to step back for the PLN models, as they might live more than 4 months.

A LMS , Slack, was mentioned. -Have to look that up.

A possible disadvantage with PLN based learnig environments is that we can not expect everyone to have the same views and opinions as I have. You might not want to give  avay to much of your personal opinions etc as it sometime might be used against you.

Topic 3

As I realize that Private Learning Networks will be common platforms for sharing and developing knowledge and methods for educaters, in times to come, I have started to build a PLN platform for our institution at Stockholm University.
As always: Youtube seems to be the source for new explanations.
A shortcut for getting to no PLN's fast is to browse You tube for PLN.
Here are some examples.

First Tweetchat this evening. Nice but not easy to express and reply on all threads but very intresting. Think I learned more on how to use Twitter, that of the issues tweeted. Think it is god to keep theese sessions just an hour.

Webinar 2

An interesting Padlet on the subject of openness.

https://padlet.com/alacre/ONL171topic2

And new to me was to find Twitter as a tool for finding people to communicate with on professional subjects in closer groups while just deleteing "crap-publishers".

As the course proceeds I intended to to embed a clip from Youtube on the feelings on new technology.
The clip was just released for "Private Use" (?)  Checking the licence gives :

Standard Youtube licence,
giving the right to show the material just on Youtube and as I embed the clip, the film is still residing on Youtube.com.

It is also possible to grant a Creative Common-license that lets us handle Youtube clips in more ways.

Topic 1 Online participation and digital literacies

The methods of sharing knowledge and skills has always been of my intrest. Im an engineer in the subject of electronics and has been on this path since it became common to use microprocessors for common people, until today when almost everyone has enormous access to information worldwide.

I think its good to keep private an public spheres apart as we are "multiple personalities".
I have lots of intrests that I may not shere to everyone, and im not intrested in all stuff that others may think I have an intrest.

ONL shows me horizons that not already was in sight for me.

I dont have at  this moment any reflection to literature so far, but I find it conveniant to look up lectures and instruction film on Youtube etc as I have to learn new stuff or just remember complicated methods as I realize Its often faster and more efficient to see somone demonstrate on a subject rather than look for written material and spend time reading,
One example is how to handle the workwide spread use of the LMS Moodle, where it is easy to find Youtube clips on almost every procedure.

I reacently learned the worr Gamification / Edutainement for making online courses more attractive.

Putting links to relevant web content in a folder on the desktop

I find it conveniant to keep direct links to the important URL's needed for this course in a "folder" on my "Desktop".
